Project Overview
Dual colour aluminium bifold doors were specified at Ridgemount to improve the connection between a renovated kitchen and the rear garden. The homeowners wanted a substantially larger opening while maintaining a consistent relationship with two contrasting palettes: white kitchen cabinetry internally and black drainage details externally.
Sieger Systems supplied a three-pane aluminium bifold door with white internal framing and black external framing. A fixed aluminium window was installed beside the stove area, using matching external framing and proportions aligned with the bifold leaves to create one coordinated garden-facing composition.
Project Challenges
Dual colour aluminium bifold doors for contrasting interior and exterior finishes
The principal challenge was to create a wide garden opening without forcing one frame colour across two very different architectural settings. White framing was required internally to coordinate with the kitchen cabinetry, while the exterior needed a black finish that related to the darker drainage details and garden elevation.
The glazing also needed to increase daylight around the kitchen and stove area. A bifold door alone would provide a large rear opening, but a separate fixed window was required to extend views and daylight across the wider elevation.
The door and window therefore needed to align in scale and finish so they read as one glazing package rather than two unrelated installations. Accurate survey information was also essential to ensure the new systems could be fitted into true, square openings without requiring shaped glass or supplementary steelwork.
Project Solutions
Three-pane bifold opening with a matching fixed garden window
Sieger Systems designed a three-pane bifold door that folds back to create a wide opening between the kitchen and garden. When closed, the large glazed leaves maintain daylight and outward views; when opened, they substantially reduce the physical division between the interior and external space.
The aluminium profiles were finished white internally to coordinate with the kitchen cabinets and black externally to match the garden-facing details. This dual-colour specification allowed each side of the door to respond to its own material context without compromising the consistency of the system.
A fixed aluminium window was positioned beside the stove area to introduce additional daylight and frame a direct garden view. Its dimensions were coordinated with the proportions of an individual bifold leaf, while the black external frame continues the same visual language across the elevation.
IQ Glass, Sieger Systems’ glazing partner, managed the process from site survey through to final fitting. Accurate preparation of the openings enabled the rectangular glazed units to be installed without bespoke shaped glass or additional supporting steelwork.
Project Highlight
The internal and external faces of the bifold door were finished in different colours, allowing the system to coordinate with white kitchen cabinetry inside and black architectural details outside. The adjacent fixed window matches the scale of the bifold leaves, extending the same glazing rhythm across the garden elevation.
End Result
Performance considerations
The three-pane configuration provides a large adjustable opening for garden access and natural ventilation. During warmer weather, the leaves can be folded back to connect the kitchen directly with the external space; when closed, the glazed elevation continues to provide daylight and garden views.
The fixed window increases light around the stove area without adding another opening mechanism or interrupting the alignment of the bifold composition. Its slim framing maximises the clear glazed area while maintaining a coordinated black external finish.
Dual colour aluminium bifold doors allow the internal and external finishes to be specified independently within one system. The powder-coated surfaces provide a durable, low-maintenance treatment, while accurate surveying and installation help support consistent operation and clean perimeter junctions.
Sieger’s conclusion
Ridgemount demonstrates how dual colour aluminium bifold doors can resolve contrasting interior and exterior material requirements within a single garden-facing opening. The coordinated fixed window extends daylight and views while preserving the proportions and finish of the wider glazing package.
This approach is suited to architects, designers and homeowners renovating kitchens where wide garden access, additional fixed glazing and different internal and external frame colours must work together.

Technical specifications
| Aluminium Bi-Fold Door Configuration | Three-pane folding door arrangement designed to create a wide opening between the kitchen and garden. |
| Dual-Colour Frame Finish | White powder-coated aluminium to the internal face, coordinated with the kitchen cabinetry; black powder-coated aluminium externally, aligned with the darker garden-facing details. |
| Fixed Aluminium Window | Slim framed fixed window positioned beside the stove area, with proportions coordinated to the size of each bifold pane. |
| Glazing Composition | Bifold door and fixed window developed as one garden-facing package, maintaining consistent external framing and module alignment. |
| Installation Coordination | Site survey and installation managed by IQ Glass. Openings were prepared true and square, allowing rectangular glazing units to be installed without custom-shaped glass or additional steelwork. |
